[edit]Inherited from Sanskrit শাটী (śāṭī), শাটিকা (śāṭikā), feminine forms of শাট (śāṭa, “garment”). Cognate with Assamese শাৰী (xari), Gujarati સાડી (sāḍī), Hindustani ساڑی / साड़ी (sāṛī), Konkani साडी (sāḍī), Marathi साडी (sāḍī), Nepali साडी (sāḍī), Sindhi ساڙهيِ / साढ़ी (sāṛhī), Sylheti ꠢꠣꠠꠤ (haṛi). Doublet of শাল (śal).
