[edit]Borrowed from Urdu مِیَاں (miyā̃), from Classical Persian میان (miyān, “middle, centre”), with semantic shift in South Asia to a male honorific (compare জাহাঁপনা (jahãpona)). Doublet of মধ্য (moddho), মাঝ (majh), and ময়দান (moẏdan). Cognate with Hindi मियॉं (miyā̃)
