[edit]Inherited from Magadhi Prakrit 𑀧𑀺𑀉𑀲𑀺 (piusi), from Late Prakrit *𑀧𑀺𑀢𑀼𑀲𑁆𑀲𑀺 (*pitussi), from Early Prakrit *𑀧𑀺𑀢𑀼𑀲𑁆𑀲𑀲𑁆𑀲𑀺 (*pitussassi) from Vedic Sanskrit पितुःष्वसृ (pituḥṣvasṛ, “father’s sister”), a compound of पितुः (pitúḥ, “father's”, genitive of पितृ (pitṛ)) + स्वसृ (svásṛ, “sister”). Doublet of পিতৃষ্বসা (pitriśvośa), a tatsama.
