Inherited from Early Assamese তেন্তেলি (tenteli), from Sanskrit তিন্ত্রিণী (tintriṇī). Cognate with Kamta তেঁতিলী (tẽtili), Sylheti ꠔꠦꠔꠂ (tetoi), Bengali তেতুল (tetul), Odia ତେନ୍ତୁଳି (tentuḷi).
