Etymology

Inherited from Prakrit 𑀢𑀺𑀓𑁆𑀔 (tikkha), from Sanskrit তীক্ষ্ণ (tīkṣṇa, sharp, hot, keen), from Proto-Indo-European *(s)tig-s-nó-s, from *(s)teyg- (to be sharp); with an unexplained lengthening of the first vowel.
