[edit]From Sanskrit জামাতৃ (jāmātṛ), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ȷ́ā́mātr̥, from a derivative of Proto-Indo-European *ǵem- (“to marry”). Doublet of জামাই (jamai) and দামাদ (damad).
