[edit]Inherited from Magadhi Prakrit *𑀚𑀸𑀫𑀸𑀇 (*jāmāi), from Sanskrit जामातृ (jāmātṛ), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ȷ́ā́mātr̥, from a derivative of Proto-Indo-European *ǵem- (“to marry”). Doublet of জামাতা (jamata) and দামাদ (damad).
