Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Middle Bengali গুমট (gumoṭ), from Prakrit *𑀕𑀼𑀫𑁆𑀳𑀝𑁆𑀝 (*gumhaṭṭa), from 𑀕𑀼𑀫𑁆𑀳 (gumha) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀝𑁆𑀝- (-ṭṭa-), from Sanskrit *ग्रूष्म (grūṣma) (an unattested variant of ग्रीष्म (grīṣma, “summer”)), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *gʷr̥Hšmás, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷr̥h₂-sm(h₂)-ós (“heavy summer”). Doublet of গ্রীষ্ম (griśśõ).
