Compound of খুজুটি (khujuṭi) +‎ পাড়া (paṛa); Sen suggests the first element derived from Sanskrit *क्षुद्रहट्टिक (kṣudrahaṭṭika, retail market), from क्षुद्र (kṣudra) +‎ हट्ट (haṭṭa) +‎ -इक (-ika),[1] with no explanation for the palatal affricate.
