[edit]Compound of খুজুটি (khujuṭi) + পাড়া (paṛa); Sen suggests the first element derived from Sanskrit *क्षुद्रहट्टिक (kṣudrahaṭṭika, “retail market”), from क्षुद्र (kṣudra) + हट्ट (haṭṭa) + -इक (-ika),[1] with no explanation for the palatal affricate.
