Inherited from Prakrit 𑀔𑀻𑀭 (khīra), from Sanskrit क्षीर (kṣīrá), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *kṣiHrám, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *kšiHrám, possibly from the BMAC substrate.[1][2]
