Etymology

Borrowed from Classical Persian آواز (āwāz), from Middle Persian ʾwʾz (āwāz), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *wṓkʷs. Cognate with Sanskrit ৱাচ্ (vāc) and Latin vōx. Doublet of বাক (bak), বকা (boka), and বাকা (baka). Compare Bengali আওয়াজ (aōẇaj), Hindi आवाज़ (āvāz).
