Inherited from Sanskrit অমৃত (amṛta), from অ- (a-, not, im-, un-) +‎ মৃত (mṛtá, dead), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *amŕ̥tas, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *amŕ̥tas, from Proto-Indo-European *n̥mr̥tós. Cognate with Odia ଅମିଅ (amia, sweet), Gujarati અમી (amī). Doublet of অমৃত (omrit).
