[edit]Borrowed from Classical Persian سوار (sawār, “rider”), from Middle Persian [script needed] (ʾswbʾl /aswār/), from Old Persian 𐎠𐎿𐎲𐎠𐎼 (a-s-b-a-r /asabāra-/, “horseman”), from Proto-Iranian *Hacwabāráh, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Haćwabʰāras. Compare Gujarati સવાર (savār), Kannada ಸವಾರ (savāra), Hindi सवार (savār).
