Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀲𑀤 (sada), from Sanskrit शत (śata), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ćatám, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱm̥tóm. Cognate with Persian صد (sad), Latin centum and English hundred.

Doublet of शत (śat), a tatsama.
