Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀲𑀡𑀤𑀺 (saṇadi) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓𑁆𑀓- (-kka-), from स्वनति (svanti, it sounds), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *swenh₂-. Related to सन (san).
