Inherited from Prakrit 𑀭𑀸𑀟𑀺 (rāḍi, shouting; battle), from Sanskrit राटि (rāṭi, war, battle), from the root रट् (raṭ, to howl, yell, cry; to crash (an axe)). Compare Punjabi ਰਾਡ਼ (rāṛ), ਰਾਰ (rār), Nepali राड़ो (rāṛo) and Gujarati રાડ઼ (rāṛ).
