    From Proto-Indo-Iranian *mánas (mind), from Proto-Indo-European *ménos (mind), from *men- (to think). Cognate with Avestan 𐬨𐬀𐬥𐬀𐬵 (manah), Old Persian 𐎶𐎴𐏃 (m-n-h /⁠manah⁠/), Latin mēns, Ancient Greek μένος (ménos), and English mind. Equivalent to मन् (man, "to think", root) +‎ -अस् (-as).
