Etymology

Inherited from Sanskrit भस्मर (bhasmara, ashy), from भस्मन् (bhasman, ash) +‎ -र (-ra, acquiring, possessing, adjectival suffix). Compare Punjabi ਭੱਸਰ (bhassar, dusty) and Nepali भसार् (bhasār, untidy).
