Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀯𑀘𑁆𑀙 (vaccha) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀟- (-ḍa-) + -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit वत्स (vatsa). Doublet of वत्स (vats) and बच्चा (baccā).
