Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *péh₃-tlo-m (“instrument for drinking”), from *peh₃- (“to drink”). Cognate with Latin pōculum (“drinking cup”), Old Irish ól (“act of drinking”), Mycenaean Greek 𐀞𐀳𐀨 (patera).
