[edit]Derived from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀡𑀺𑀘𑁆𑀘 (ṇicca) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit नीच (nīcá), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *(H)niHćás (“facing down”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *HniHčás, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁ni-h₃kʷ-ós, from *h₁ní (“down”) + *-h₃kʷ- (“facing, looking”).
