[edit]From Proto-Indo-Aryan *tánas, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *tánas, from Proto-Indo-European *ténos (“extension”), from *ten- (“to stretch, extend”). Cognate with Latin tenus, Ancient Greek *τένος (*ténos) (attested in Ancient Greek ἀτενής (atenḗs)).
