Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀝𑁂𑀓𑁆𑀓𑁆- (*ṭekk-). Cognate with Punjabi ਟੇਕਣਾ (ṭekṇā) / ٹیکنا (ṭekṇā), Nepali टेक्नु (ṭeknu), Gujarati ટેકવું (ṭekvũ), Marathi टेकणे (ṭekṇe), Bengali টেকা (ṭeka), Odia ଟେକିବା (ṭekibā).
