[edit]Inherited from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀕𑀸𑀡 (gāṇa), from Sanskrit गान (gāna), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *gaH- (“sing”), from Proto-Indo-European *geH- (“sing”). Cognate to Bengali গান (gan), Gujarati ગાણું (gāṇũ) and Marathi गाणे (gāṇe).
