Inherited from Sanskrit खर (khára, rough, hard, solid, sharp). Cognate with Punjabi ਖਰਾ (kharā) / کَھرا (kharā), Sindhi کرو / खरो, Gujarati ખરું (kharũ), Marathi खरे (khare), Bengali খরা (khora), Odia ଖରା (kharā), Assamese খৰ (khor).
