Etymology
[edit]Probably related to अक्षि (akṣi, “eye”), perhaps via a clipping of अभीक्ष्ण (abhīkṣṇa, “constant, perpetual, every moment”), which would be decomposed as अभि (abhi) + अक्षि (akṣi).[1] Compare German Augenblick (“instant, moment”) for a similar semantic development from the same root.
Pronunciation
[edit]Noun
[edit]क्षण • (kṣaṇa) stem, m
- any instantaneous point of time, an instant, a moment
- leisure moment, vacant time
- a suitable or fit moment, an opportunity
- a festival
