[edit]From Maharastri Prakrit 𑀓𑀅𑀮𑁆𑀮𑀅 (kaallaa), from Ashokan Prakrit 𑀓𑀢 (kata) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀇𑀮𑁆𑀮- (-illa-) + -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit कृत (kṛtá, “done”). Compare Marathi केले (kele).
