[edit]Borrowed from Classical Persian قاعده (qā'ida), from Arabic قَاعِدَة (qāʕida). Related to कवाईत (kavāīt). Compare Gujarati કાયદો (kāyado), Hindustani قاعِدَہ (qā'ida) / क़ायदा (qāydā), Kannada ಕಾಯ್ದೆ (kāyde), Sindhi قاعِدو / क़ाइदो, Punjabi ਕਾਇਦਾ (kāidā) / قاعِدہ (qā‘idh), Odia କାଇଦା (kāidā).
