[edit]Borrowed from Arabic قَاعِدَة (qāʕida, “rule, principle”).

- base, foundation, that upon which anything stands or is founded
- rule, norm, principle, anything that guides or prescribes a conduct
- Synonym: قانون (kanun)
- custom, habitual practice, the frequent repetition of the same behavior
