[edit]Borrowed from Classical Persian قانون (qānūn), from Arabic قَانُون (qānūn)، from Ancient Greek κανών (kanṓn). Cognate with English canon, Bengali কানুন (kanun), Gujarati કાનૂન (kānūn), Odia କାନୁନ (kānuna), Punjabi ਕਨੂੰਨ (kanū̃nă), Santali ᱠᱟᱹᱱᱩᱱ (kănun).
