Borrowed from Classical Persian قانون (qānūn), from Arabic قَانُون (qānūn), from Ancient Greek κᾰνών (kanṓn). Cognate with Assamese কানন (kanon), Odia କାନୁନ (kānuna), Maithili कानून (kānūn), Hindustani قَانُون (qānūn) / क़ानून (qānūn), Punjabi ਕਨੂੰਨ (kanū̃nă), Sindhi قانُون (qānūn), Gujarati કાનૂન (kānūn), Marwari कानून (kānūn), English canon.
