Inherited from Prakrit 𑀉𑀟𑁆𑀟𑁂𑀇 (uḍḍei), from Sanskrit उड्डयते (uḍḍayate). Cognate with Old Punjabi ਉਡਿ (uḍi /⁠uḍḍi⁠/), Old Gujarati उडए (uḍae), ऊडए (ūḍae), ऊडइ (ūḍaï, present indicative, third person singular), Old Marathi 𑘄𑘚𑘜𑘹 (uḍaṇe), Middle Bengali উড় (uṛ).
