[edit]Borrowed from Classical Persian عَاشِقِی (āšiqī, “being in love, falling in love”), derived from عَاشِق (āšiq, “in love”) + ی (-ī), the former from Arabic عاشِق (ʕāšiq). By surface analysis, आशिक़ (āśiq, “lover”) + -ई (-ī). Cognate with Bengali আশিকী (aśiki).
