Etymology

Borrowed from Classical Persian عاشقی ('āšiqī, being in love, falling in love), derived from عاشق ('āšiq, in love) + ی (), the former from Arabic عاشِق (ʕāšiq). Synchronically analysable as আশিক (aśik, lover) +‎ -ঈ (-i). Cognate with Hindi आशिकी (āśikī)
