[edit]Borrowed from Classical Persian عاشقی ('āšiqī, “being in love, falling in love”), derived from عاشق ('āšiq, “in love”) + ی (-ī), the former from Arabic عاشِق (ʕāšiq). Synchronically analysable as আশিক (aśik, “lover”) + -ঈ (-i). Cognate with Hindi आशिकी (āśikī)
