From Proto-Indo-Iranian *Habʰítas, from a derivative of Proto-Indo-European *h₂m̥bʰi. Cognate with Avestan 𐬀𐬌𐬡𐬌𐬙𐬋 (aiβitō).

      sastu mātā sastu pitā sastu śvā sastu viśpatiḥ.
      sasantu sarve jñātayaḥ sastv ayam abhito janaḥ.
      May the mother sleep, may the father sleep, may the dog and the village chief sleep.
      Let all the kinsmen and all the people who are round about sleep.
