[edit]From Aramaic חְדַעְסַר (ḥḏaʿsar). By surface analysis, ܚܲܕ݇ (ḥa, “one”) + ܥܸܣܪܵܐ (ˁisrā, “ten”); compare Arabic أَحَد عَشَر (ʔaḥad ʕašar) and Hebrew אַחַד עָשָׂר (akhád 'asár).
