Etymology
[edit]Learned borrowing from Classical Syriac, from Aramaic חְדַעֵסְרֵא (ḥəḏaʿesrē). Equivalent to ܚܕ݂ܵܐ (ḥḏā, “one”) + ܥܸܣܲܪ (ˁissar, “ten”); compare Arabic إِحْدَى عَشْرَةَ (ʔiḥdā ʕašrata) and Hebrew אַחַת עֶשְׂרֵה (akhát 'esré).
