Etymology
[edit]From Aramaic דַּלְקֻבֵּל (dalqūḇel, literally “that which is against”). See also ܒܲܪܩܘܼܒ݂ܠ (barquḇl, “against, opposite (physically)”). The pronunciation with /r/ rather than /l/ may be due to influence from the Kurdish loanword ܒܵܪܵܐ (bārā, “side”).
