[edit]Deverbal from کھوجْنا (khojnā, “to seek; search”),[1] inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀔𑁄𑀚𑁆𑀚 (khojja).[2] Compare Gujarati ખોજ (khoj), Maithili खोज (khōj), Bengali খোঁজা (khō̃ja), Assamese খোজ (khüz, “step, footprint; ask for”), Odia ଖୋଜ (khoja).
