Deverbal from کھوجْنا (khojnā, to seek; search),[1] inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀔𑁄𑀚𑁆𑀚 (khojja).[2] Compare Gujarati ખોજ (khoj), Maithili खोज (khōj), Bengali খোঁজা (khō̃ja), Assamese খোজ (khüz, step, footprint; ask for), Odia ଖୋଜ (khoja).
