Persian
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Middle Persian [script needed] (*kʾsk' /kāsag/) (compare Baluchi کاسگ (kāsag, “bowl”)), possibly from Old Persian 𐎣𐎠𐎿𐎣 (kāsaka, “semi-precious stone, glass”), or perhaps related to Sanskrit कोश (kośa, “pot, cask, cup”). Likely not related to Sanskrit काच (kāca, “glass”).
Pronunciation
[edit]- (Classical Persian) IPA(key): [kɑː.ˈsa]
- (Iran, formal) IPA(key): [kʰɒː.sé]
- (Tajik, formal) IPA(key): [kʰɔ.sǽ]
