Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Prakrit छित्तरु (chittaru), from Sanskrit छित्त्वार (chittvará), from the root छिद् (chid). Cognate with Sindhi ڇِتَرُ (chitaru) / ڇِتَرِو (chitiro), Hindi छीतर (chītar), Gujarati છિપરું (chiprũ) and Marathi शित्री (śitrī).
