[edit]From Middle Persian 𐭯𐭫𐭮𐭲𐭠𐭫 (plstʾl /paristār/, “maidservant, slave”), equivalent to پرستـ (parast-, present stem of پرستیدن (parastidan, “to worship”)) + ـار (-âr).
