[edit]From Middle Persian myγ (mēγ, “cloud, mist”), from Parthian, from Proto-Iranian *Hmaygáh (compare Manichaean Parthian myg, Avestan 𐬨𐬀𐬉𐬖𐬀- (maēγa-, “cloud”)), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hmaygʰás (compare Sanskrit मेघ (megha, “cloud”)), from Proto-Indo-European *h₃meygʰ- (“cloud, mist, fog”).
Related to Persian مه (meh), and cognate with Northern Kurdish mij.
