Borrowed from Classical Persian ماه‌جبین (mâh-jabīn, literally “moon-like forehead”), ultimately compound of Classical Persian ماه (mâh, “moon”) and Arabic جبين (jabīn, “forehead”). Doublet of ماہ‌سیما (māh-sīmā).
