Etymology

Unknown. According to Nishanyan, possibly from an unattested Persian word which derives from the verb کستن (kustan, “to beat”). Compare also Old Turkic [script needed] (kösrük, “hobble, fetter”).

1. hobble, tether, fetter, any kind of rope or chain used to prevent animals from escaping

   Synonym: بوقاغی (bukağı)

2. (nautical) lanyard, a short rope used for fastening rigging, as a handle, etc.
3. (by extension) watchchain, a short chain attached to a watch
