Etymology 1

According to Nishanyan, a derivation from the Proto-Turkic verb *kova- (to empty the inside, to hollow), itself a development of *kovï (hollow). Related to قوف (kof, hollow, rotten), قوغوش (koğuş, ward, dormitory) and قوغوق (koğuk, hollow).
