Inherited from Proto-Turkic *toprak; compare Bashkir тупраҡ (tupraq), Chuvash тӑпра (tăpra), Kazakh топырақ (topyraq), Kyrgyz топурак (topurak), Turkmen toprak, Uyghur تۇپراق (tupraq) and Uzbek tuproq.
