Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Semitic *ṭīn- (“clay”), and considered by some a borrowing from Classical Syriac ܛܝܼܢܵܐ (ṭīnā). Cognate with Akkadian 𒅎 (ṭīdum) and Hebrew טִיט (ṭiṭ).
