Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Old Anatolian Turkish طَانُقْ (ṭanuq, danuq), from Proto-Turkic *tanu-k (“witness”), a development of the root *tanu- (“to get to know”), whence also طانیمق (tanımak, “to know, to recognize”). Cognate with Azerbaijani tanıq and Hungarian tanú.
