[edit]From Middle Persian *zumag, compare Chagatai زمج (zummaj, “steppe eagle, Aquila nipalensis”) known from the Bāburnāma and metathetical Hindi जुमिज़ (jumiz, “steppe eagle, Aquila nipalensis; eastern imperial eagle, Aquila heliaca”) and Classical Syriac ܙܘܡܐ (zūmā, zaumā) without the suffix from Middle Persian *zum. Classical Persian زمنج (zimunj, ziminj), زمچ (zimič).
